TEAMERICA
has been a performance Radio Control competition and show team since 1990.
RACE 96
We began as a Giant Scale Air Racing team when the first Madera
Air Race was run. Registered by Matt Pearson and Harry Horlock,
they were the 96th "team" to show interest in the new sport being
developed by a couple of Southern California R/C Promoters.
Already established as a major contender in the Schneider Cup
Reenactment competition, Matt and Harry set out to make their mark on
real racing.
One of the most famous full scale air racers of that day
was Dago Red so that became the focus of their efforts - To build a
giant scale replica of the modified P-51 and win the Madera Air Races.
Well, they didn't win but they didn't lose either. With
over a hundred pre-registered teams only about half showed up on race
day. Following Tech Inspection, Time-Trials commenced for two
days. Thirty aircraft were selected to compete in three classes -
Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Ten aircraft in each class competed in
heat races to determine who would earn the right to compete in the
final Trophy Race for their class. TEAMERICA's
RACE96 qualified for the Bronze class and ultimately made it into the
Trophy Race on Sunday. Thanks to a mid-air collision between two
other competitors during the Trophy race, Race 96 crossed the finish
line third. With heat money and final winnings, TEAMERICA took home over $900 and a 3rd Place Trophy.
Since 1990 TEAMERICA
has been a well known and respected name in Giant Scale Aerobatics, Air Shows
and competitions of all TEAMERICA
has spawned two other competition teams in
TeaMacchi during the Schneider Cup Re-enactment events and Team Infinity
while competing in the California R/C Marathon (a distance flying event).
